DC Offset - What the heck is it?
Pro Tools includes an Audio Suite plug-in to remove DC Offset. Which is really cool, if you know what DC Offset is. Since most people don't know what it actually looks like, here you go!
Look closely at the picture, and note the near-vertical fadeout on the first waveform, and how it is sitting off the 0 amplitude line. The second waveform is not offset.
DC offset is simply an offsetting of the signal from zero. It can cause pops and clicks, and reduce the loudness of a track when it is normalized, since the DC Offset consumes headroom.
