What does dBFS stand for?
dBFS stands for "decibels full scale". The term is used in specifying A/D (analog/digital) and D/A audio data converters.
Zero dBFS (0 dBFS) is a digital audio reference level equal to "full scale," where full scale refers to the maximum peak voltage level possible before digital clipping or digital overload of the data converter. And digital clipping, unlike analog clipping, sounds awful!
The full-scale value is fixed by the internal data converter design, and varies from model to model.
